Know your numbers.

Both of them. Labour cost updates as you build the schedule; food cost comes from invoices and a monthly count — live, while there's still time to change the week.

30 days of the full product. No credit card. Set up in an afternoon.

Most owners meet these numbers at month-end. Yours are live all month.

The math

Restaurant math, in two numbers

Zis shows each one against sales — labour projected while you build the schedule, food settled once the invoices and the monthly count are in. No spreadsheet, no month-end surprise.

The menu

The week — scheduling

The schedule builder

Position-colored shifts, copy across days, publish 1–4 weeks at once. “Until close” shifts end when you do.

Live labor cost

The week's cost updates with every shift you place, and overtime is flagged before you publish — not after payroll.

Availability, time off, swaps

Staff submit from their phones; approved time off blocks the grid. The team claims and trades shifts; you approve.

Timesheets & reminders

Actual hours next to scheduled hours, so payroll is honest. Texts go out the evening before every shift.

The numbers — food & labour

Inventory without ceremony

A vendor and item catalogue, invoices entered in minutes, and one monthly count of the items that matter. No recipes, no scanning ritual.

Food & beverage cost, monthly

Opening count plus purchases minus closing count — the periodic method your accountant already trusts, computed for you every month.

Both costs, side by side

Labour cost moves as you place shifts; food cost lands with invoices and the monthly count. Two live numbers, never blended into one.

Multi-location

Every location gets its own hours, roster, schedule, and count. Switch in one click.

The week, at a glance

Zis labor report: per-employee hours, wages, and cost for the week — 227 scheduled hours, the week's labor cost, and one staff member flagged in overtime
The labor report totals every employee's hours and cost — overtime flagged before you publish, not after payroll.
The thesis

Why both numbers, live?

“Most people who open restaurants will fail, because they lack the fundamental understanding of restaurant math.”

— Joe Bastianich, restaurateur & MasterChef judge

Labour lives in your scheduler. Food cost lives in a spreadsheet that catches up after the invoices pile up. The two meet once a month, in your accountant's statement — long after the week that caused them is over.

Zis puts them in the same room. The schedule is one input, the count is the other — labour cost and food cost, side by side on one screen, while there's still time to change them.

Built alongside operators with over 30 years on the floor. One plan, everything included. The first ten restaurants — our Founding Restaurants — hold their founding price for life.

Getting started

Up and running in an afternoon

  1. Add your team

Enter staff by name — no accounts needed to start. Set positions, wages, and the locations they work.

  2. Build & publish the week

Shift times default to your opening hours, labor cost totals as you go. Publish and everyone gets it by email or text.

  3. Run the week

Time-off blocks the grid, swaps wait for your approval, reminders send themselves. Enter invoices as they arrive, count once a month, and food cost settles as the actuals land.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost?

$249 per location per month. One plan, everything included — scheduling, inventory, food & labour costs. No per-user fees, no modules, no tiers.

What are Founding Restaurants?

The first ten restaurants on Zis hold $149 per location per month, for life, in exchange for a monthly call and their honest numbers. Ten seats, counted — when they're taken, they're taken.

We run more than one location — does that work?

Yes. Each location has its own operating hours, schedules, roster, and monthly count; managers switch between them in one click.

Do my staff need to install an app?

No. Zis works in any browser, on any phone. Staff can sign in with email or a text-message code.

Can I schedule staff who don't have an account yet?

Yes — add staff by name and schedule them immediately. When you're ready, send an invite and their account attaches to the same schedule history.
